Fire Service is being #BoldForChange this International Women’s Day

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is pledging to #BeBoldforChange this International Women’s Day (IWD), which takes place each year on 8 March.

This worldwide event champions women’s achievements – from the political to the social – while calling for gender equality. The theme of the IWD campaign this year is #BeBoldForChange.

WYFRS wants to show it’s committed to creating inclusive working environments and that it values women and men’s contributions equally.

The service will be showing its support for the #BeBoldForChange campaign on social media as well as running its own hashtag #SheInspiresMe – asking people to tweet pictures of themselves and the women who inspire them.

There are many inspirational female role models at WYFRS, some of whom can be seen in the recent firefighter recruitment campaign. These women are only a handful of those being bold and smashing stereotypes.

Councillor Judith Hughes, Chair of West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority, said: “We want to be a driving force in promoting inclusive working cultures and want to help women unleash their limitless potential.

“Although there has been significant progress in gender equality in recent years, there are still challenges globally and locally- the IWD campaign sends out such a positive message and it’s so important for us to get involved and #BeBoldForChange.”

Chief Fire Officer, John Roberts, said: “In the past 18 months we have sought to re-energise our diversity and inclusion efforts.

“It is a personal commitment of mine to ensure we are always striving to know more about each other and the communities we serve.

“IWD is a chance for us to commemorate women in their entirety enabling us not only to praise the achievements of women but also to show our support for gender equality.”
