Normanton Fire Station

Normanton Fire Station, has recently been upgraded from a retained duty system to wholetime and is the first station in West Yorkshire to operate a new close call duty system. In the past Normanton personnel would respond to incidents via a pager alarm. The improvement in fire cover is achieved through the personnel working from the station through the daytime and then from accommodation provided adjacent to the station, which will ensure that there is a faster response to any emergency call.

The team is made up of a station commander who also has responsibility for Castleford fire station. The team is staffed by 13 firefighters. The population of the area is 21,064 and there are 8,888 dwellings incorporated within the area.

The station personnel are working hard to make the public as safe as possible through strong well forged community links performing school visits, group talks and extrication demonstrations providing education on community safety and road traffic collisions. As part of the newly formed Local and District Risk Reduction Team the aim is to target our resources to areas identified as high risk and reduce that risk to a tolerable level to improve service delivery.
