What’s happening in Wakefield district…

To give you an insight to how we work within your area:

A District Command team led by the District Commander are responsible for the delivery of an efficient and effective service for the Wakefield community.

September is the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Home Fire Safety month, this includes:

  • Chimney Fire Safety Week (2-8 September)
  • NFCC Business Safety Week (9-15 September)
  • Gas Safety Week (16-22 September)
  • Fire Door Safety Week (23-29 September)
  • Home Safety Week (30 September-6 October)

To support these national campaigns, Wakefield District staff are working hard to keep you safe by working in and with our communities to reduce risk and vulnerability and continue to provide our flagship Prevention campaign Safe and Well. About this district

The district covers some 219 square miles and is home to 315,000 people in a diverse range of city, urban and rural communities.

Since the demise of the coal mining industry, the district has become the base for a number of distribution and manufacturing companies.

The fire and rescue service is a key partner on a number of groups in the district, with focus on arson reduction, youth inclusion (such as the Young Firefighters scheme, which started in Wakefield) fire safety enforcement, and road traffic collision reduction.
