Firefighters deal with flooding incidents

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has been working hard throughout today in response to flooding in the Calder Valley and Wharfe Valley areas.

We currently (correct at 6pm) have two fire engines working in the Sowerby Bridge area pumping away flood water to protect properties.

In Todmorden we have two fire engines pumping out water from a supermarket and around 20 properties have been affected by flooding (largely up to two feet and affecting cellars).

One of the fire engines there is from Todmorden and the other from Dewsbury and crews are attempting to protect properties.

The Fire Service has not had to carry out any evacuations.

A crew from Otley has assisted in Ilkley with a person stuck in their car.

Our advice is to keep up to date with flood warnings, via the Eye on Calderdale website, The Environment Agency (Yorkshire and North East), local authority websites and social media and Met Office weather updates.
