Firefighters join forces with Father Christmas for gift appeal!

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is backing Radio Aire’s Cash for Kids ‘Mission Christmas’ campaign, which aims to ensure no child goes without a gift this Christmas.

In West Yorkshire, there are 39,500 children living in poverty. With the help of the public, who are asked to donate a brand new, unwrapped gift for a child aged 0-18, it is hoped as many of these children as possible will receive a wonderful Christmas gift.

Twelve fire stations across West Yorkshire will act as drop-off points, where members of the public can leave the gifts. These stations are: Bradford, Leeds, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Keighley, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Killingbeck, Hunslet, Moortown, Shipley and Garforth.

Each fire station will display a poster advertising that it is an official Mission Christmas drop-off point. The public will be able to leave their gifts between the hours of 12pm and 2pm, and 5pm and 7pm each day.

Gifts must be un-wrapped and in original packaging and we ask that members of the public do not leave any items outside the fire station if no-one is available to accept them.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Dave Walton, said: “This is a wonderful, heart-warming appeal which will put a smile on the faces of so many children who are at risk of waking up to nothing on Christmas Day. We would encourage the people of West Yorkshire to buy just one extra present this Christmas and drop it off at one of our fire stations, where we will look after it before the gifts are collected by Father Christmas and his helpers!”

Lauren Scarth, Charity Executive, said “Cash for Kids are delighted to have the support of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. As the number of children living in poverty is increasing each year, their involvement ensures that we can help even more children this Christmas. Please drop off a new and un-wrapped gift at one of the fire stations taking part.”
