West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) is going to be joining dozens from the local community in enjoying Calderdale Pride 2019, in the heart of Halifax town centre tomorrow.
We’ll be parked up at the end of Market Street (McDonald’s side) from 9am in our branded fire engine – marked up in the rainbow pride colours and emblazoned with the message “fire doesn’t discriminate, and neither do we!”
Alongside the engine will be a firefighter stilt walker and crews and fire service staff happy to meet the crowds and pose for pictures to show WYFRS’ support for the legendary event.
The free and inclusive event will see entertainment on the main stage at the top of Russell Street, with a day of performances, market stalls and food and drink.
Watch Commander Anthony Devine (LGBT Staff Network Chair) said: “My LGBT colleagues and I are fortunate enough to work in an organisation where discrimination and harassment towards the LGBT community is unheard of.
“Our attendance at Calderdale Pride is one of the ways we demonstrate to our friends, communities and colleagues that fire doesn’t discriminate and neither do we.
“Those who missed Leeds Pride last weekend should be sure to not miss out again this Saturday.”
