Ossett station is the new home of the Wakefield District Support Team who were previously based at Wakefield.

The Team incorporates Ops training, Prevention and HR personnel. The Ops team provide support and training to operational crews and partner agencies. They also plan district and brigade exercises and scope out potential venues that can add value for operational crews to utilise for training in a variety of scenarios.

The Prevention team help support crews and drive forward initiatives in the local community and work closely with partner agencies. HR personnel provide a vital link for all staff and the team have a dedicated HR Business partner.

Work started on the new station in September 2015, the schedule for building was 52 weeks, and was completed six weeks early.

The site hosts a two bay appliance room with a specialist water rescue drying room and BA logistics store.  There is also office space and messing areas on the ground floor, along with a community room and a gym.

The build and fitting out process benefitted greatly from lessons learnt on previous builds and a visit to Rastrick station and input from Green watch helped with the fit out and particularly the water rescue facilities.

Occupation of the new Ossett station commenced on 5th October 2016.  The hard work and planning in the months and weeks leading up to changeover by the Station Commander, clerk and all the watches, contributed to a smooth migration on the day.

The new fire station is a comfortable, safe and up to date workplace and represents a significant investment by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority.  It will provide a modern and efficient base from which to deliver our highly effective emergency response and community safety activities in the area for many years to come.
