Dignitaries and community members were thoroughly impressed with the new South Kirkby Fire Station after a ‘first glimpse’ during its official opening today. Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, David Dinmore…
South Kirkby Fire Station opened on 16 January 2015. The station covers a population of around 11,000 and is close to the southern border of West Yorkshire. The siting of the new station, at South Kirkby Business Park, has been chosen for its good access to South Elmsall, Hemsworth, the A1 and surrounding areas. South Kirkby business park is a sustainable growth park with a percentage of the land being reformed to create public green open space.
The station is staffed by 13 firefighters working across two shifts on a ‘Close Call’ system. They provide fire cover 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. The station boasts a fully accessible multi-purpose room, which is available for community use and may be shared with our service partners such as Neighbourhood Policing Teams.
