  • Position: Assistant Authority Fitness Advisor

    Contract Type: Part-time, Permanent

    Following a recent resignation of the Assistant Authority Fitness Advisor, applications are being sought from competent firefighters.

    Description:

    The role will require you to work alongside the current Authority Fitness Advisor to assist in promoting, developing, co-ordinating and managing all aspects of fitness within the Authority, working closely with the Occupational Health and Safety team.

    You will be required to work one day a fortnight under a grey book secondary contract. There will be a degree of flexibility based on business need. The position would suit someone who has:

    • a recognised qualification at REPS level three or above (ideally degree level)
    • experience of applying exercise physiology and fitness testing
    • experience of designing and delivering cardiovascular fitness development programs for individuals
    • experience of designing and delivering gym based muscular fitness development programs for individuals
    • excellent communications skills
    • the ability to work to deadlines and on own initiative

    Eligibility

    Applicants must:

    • Have band ‘A’ or ‘B’ in the current PDR process.
    • Be a competent firefighter rank (or above).
    • Be free of current formal disciplinary awards throughout the entire process.
    • Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude to work, good communication and problem solving skills

    Process

    The selection process will comprise of 3 stages:

    • Stage 1 - ‘A’ or ‘B’ in current (2018) PDR process.
    • Stage 2 - Application form.
    • Stage 3 - Competency based interview around the person specification attached to the advert.

    • Closing date for applications - midnight Sunday 12th May 2019
    • Shortlisting completed by Friday 17th May 2019

    You’ll have excellent leadership skills with a record of success in managing delivery teams, experience of working with at risk groups, extensive experience of working with a range of agencies at strategic level, with the ability to performance manage and evaluate a range of community safety initiatives. 

    You will need a leadership and management qualification or have an equivalent level of learning through experience.
