  • Position: Internal Vacancy - Watch Commander (B) - Operational Guidance & Learning

    Following a recent transfer applications are sought from Wholetime competent Watch Managers (WM a or b) for the above position based at FSHQ (there is also opportunity to work from other locations considering operational and departmental requirements)

    Description:

     The role will involve:

    • Overseeing the internal audit of published National Operational Guidance and ensuring the appropriate adoption into the organisation.
    • Identifying and implementing appropriate support guidance and interim policy documents to compliment NOG and ensure the organisation has limited risk regarding response and resilience.
    • Ensuring that all policies, guidance and learning are managed through a robust framework that accounts for legislative, strategic and operational requirements in collaboration with regional partners and internal stakeholders (H&S, Diversity etc).
    • Ensuring appropriate systems are in place for the monitoring and recording of implemented guidance and policies to support audit processes.
    • Ensuring audit trails are in place and effective for both Guidance and Learning

    Eligibility

    • Candidates will work the Grey book flexi scheme and must have;
    • Band A or B in their current PDR
    • Be free of current formal disciplinary awards throughout the entire process
    • Hold a full and valid driving licence

    An opportunity has arisen for Firefighters to work at Garforth, Morley, Rawdon & Wetherby Fire Stations on the Day Crewing (DC) duty system within West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS). 

    Description:

    We are responsible for the county’s fire and rescue service, which serves a population of more than two million people spread over almost 800 square miles.  Fire cover is provided 24-hours a day, every day of the year. 

    We are an organisation where everyone is encouraged, trusted and supported to play their part in promoting safety and wellbeing across all communities in West Yorkshire. We are looking for candidates who are committed to our vision of making West Yorkshire safer and who demonstrate the values of team, responsibility, integrity, dialogue and learn.

    The DC duty system is where DC staff members work a combination of positive and standby hours over a 24 hour period.  Positive hours are worked on the fire station or appliance and standby hours are worked ‘on call’ from a residence within a 5 minute ‘turn in’ area of the station.

    Therefore, staff members working the DC duty system are required to reside within a 5 minute turn in area of the station in either permanent or rented accommodation for which an additional allowance is payable to the staff member.

    Applications are welcome from existing competent Wholetime Firefighters from UK Fire and Rescue Services. In addition to this, competent Retained Duty System (RDS) FF’s who are currently employed by WYFRS are eligible to apply.

    Eligibility

     Applicants must:

    • Have band ‘A’ or ‘B’ in the latest PDR process (Internal only)
    • Be a competent Firefighter (or above) in a UK Fire and Rescue Service
    • Not have any current discipline awards and remain free of disciplinary awards throughout the process
    • Have no current/outstanding development action plans, performance improvement action plans or capability issues related to competency
    • Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude to work, good communication and problem solving skills

    Process

    The selection process will comprise of 4 stages:

    • Stage 1 - Identify potential via the PDR process (‘A’ or ‘B’ score) Internal only
    • Stage 2 - Completion of an online application form and subsequent shortlisting
    • Stage 3 - Online Behavioural and Aptitude tests (where applicable)
    • Stage 4 - Presentation and Interview
    • Stage 5 - Pre employment checks

  • Position: Assistant Authority Fitness Advisor (Internal only)

    Following a recent resignation of the Assistant Authority Fitness Advisor, applications are being sought from both competent Wholetime and On-Call Firefighters.

    Description:

    The role will require you to work alongside the current Authority Fitness Advisor to assist in promoting, developing, co-ordinating and managing all aspects of fitness within the Authority, working closely with the Occupational Health and Safety team.

    You will be required to work one day a fortnight under a grey book secondary contract. There will be a degree of flexibility based on business need. The position would suit someone who has:

    • a recognised qualification at REPS level three or above (ideally degree level)
    • experience of applying exercise physiology and fitness testing
    • experience of designing and delivering cardiovascular fitness development programs for individuals
    • experience of designing and delivering gym based muscular fitness development programs for individuals
    • excellent communications skills
    • the ability to work to deadlines and on own initiative

     

    Eligibility

     Applicants must:

    • Have band ‘A’ or ‘B’ in the current PDR process.
    • Be a competent firefighter rank (or above).

    Internal Only Vacancy: Watch Manager B, Assistant Prevention Manager, 2 Year Temporary Non-Established Post, Leeds Area.

    Applications are invited from whole time operational Watch Commanders to work in the Leeds District Prevention team, on the Grey Book Flexi System.

    The successful post holder will support the District Prevention Manager (DPM) in the development and delivery of the city wide prevention strategy with a focus on supporting and developing internal colleagues.


    Duties of the role include investigating further the reasoning behind cell fires in prisons and targeting repeat offenders, managing WYFRS/Safer Leeds shared priorities and delivering district based road safety events.  

     

    This post is subject to the successful completion of an enhanced Disclosure and Barring check.


    Members of staff applying must:
    · be an operational whole time operational Watch Commander (A or B) in an operational or non-operational posting.
    · have a band ‘A’ or ‘B’ in their latest PDR
