  • Position: Human Resources Assistant

    Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary

    Description:

    A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Human Resources team which supports all our employees within West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

    As a key member of the team you will provide administrative support to the HR department for a range of HR processes including recruitment, terminations, changes to employees’ terms and conditions, payroll and also undertake induction sessions and general office duties. You will work closely with other departments.

    Applicants must administrative experience in a Human Resources environment. The successful candidate will have experience of Microsoft Office applications and using bespoke HR Information Systems. You must possess excellent communication and customer service skills and be able to work on own initiative to meet conflicting deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy.  The ability to work as part of a team and have a flexible approach to the needs of the post are also essential.

  • Position: On-Call Watch Manager - Holmfirth (internal only)

    An opportunity has arisen for a Watch Manager (WM) to work at Holmfirth Fire Station on the Retained Duty System (RDS). Applications are welcome from existing Wholetime and RDS Watch Managers and competent Crew Managers (CM) as a promotion opportunity.

    Description:

    Members of staff applying must be:

    • A competent Crew Manager or above
    • Have a band ‘A’ or ‘B’ in their most recent PDR
    • Have no current disciplinary awards throughout the process
    • Live within a 5 minute response time to the On-Call station
    • Be able to provide a minimum of 60 hours cover per week (minimum 18 premium hours per week)
    • Have a full current driving licence

    Due to a reduction in hours, expressions of interest are sought from wholetime substantive Crew and Watch Managers to work within the Operational Special Projects COMAH team, based at SDC. There will however be the opportunity to work remotely on occasions depending on work constraints and this would be agreed locally by the individual and their line manager. There may also be the opportunity to maintain operational competencies and provide resilience capability within the Grey Book Flexi system. There will be an expectation to attend external training courses outside of West Yorkshire.

  • Position: Internal Only - Control Operator (Trainee) - 2 Posts Temporary/Secondment

    An opportunity has arisen for 2 x Temporary/Secondment Full Time Positions for 10/12 months to cover maternity leave (with possibility of becoming permanent).

    Description:

    Applications are being invited from individuals who wish to be considered for Control Operator.

    The post holder will deal with emergency calls from the public and mobilise appliances, officers and equipment via a centralised computer based system. The principal duties of the post include the receipt and recording of emergency calls, monitoring and maintaining availability of fire appliances, incident support and carrying out administrative duties as required. Comprehensive in-house training will be provided.

    Applicants must be experienced at working within a dynamic, high pressure environment with strict time constraints

    It is essential that applicants have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, can maintain a confident and resilient attitude in highly challenging situations and are prepared to work shifts including night shifts, weekends and bank holidays. 

    The successful candidate will have experience of dealing with people in stressful situations and be confident and effective telephone communicators. Applicants must possess a GCSE ‘C’ English (or equivalent level 2 literacy qualification), or have obtained a NVQ Level 3 Emergency Fire Services Control Operations qualification. An aptitude and motivation to undertake intensive training and the ability to quickly comprehend and apply instructions is essential.

    The full time duty system will require you to work 2 ten hour days, 2 fourteen hour night shifts followed by 4 days off which average 42 hours per week.

    This 8 day system requires weekend and public holiday working on a regular basis, in addition you may also be required to work any other duty systems in Control. Please refer to the terms and conditions posted with the vacancy for further details. The appointments are subject to aptitude tests, interview and medical assessments.
