  • Position: Senior Fire Protection Inspector (Fire Engineering & Planning)

    Description:

    A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Fire Protection team. As a key member of the team you will be responsible in assisting the Authority in the discharge of its fire protection duties and responsibilities in the West Yorkshire region.

    The post will involve supporting inspectors who carry out all categories of fire protection audits and Building Regulation applications.  They will also assist in the training of operational staff in basic fire safety principles in complex and or fire engineered buildings..

    You will need to hold a Level 4 Diploma as detailed in the NFCC Competency Framework for Business Fire Safety or an equivalent qualification / level of experience.

    You should have the ability to work flexibly with minimum supervision to meet priorities and be an innovative thinker in relation to fire protection based issues. Post holders must possess a full valid driving licence.

The duties of the role will include preparing Performance Management System records, minute taking, maintaining District managers’ diaries, preparing reports and statistics, co-ordinating the work of the Station Clerks within the district.

    Applications are sought from Wholetime Firefighters to work the Day Crewing Close Call (DCCC) Duty Shift System within the cluster of stations (South Kirkby, Normanton and Castleford).

    Closing date is midnight on the Sunday 26 January 2020.

    In anticipation of Firefighter vacancies on the DCCC duty shift system at South Kirkby, Normanton and Castleford Fire Stations, applications are being sought from wholetime Firefighters (FF). All applicants will be required to submit an online application form and if shortlisted enter a selection process.

    The selection process will create a list of successful applicants for future vacancies (applicants will be scored and ranked against their peers). The list will remain live as per the Staff Transfer Policy. Those who are successful at interview, but not immediately moved to a vacant post, will remain on the list pending future vacancies. Further selection processes will be run on the demands and organisational needs of the Authority. Successful applicants will work on the DCCC duty shift system as per Day Crewing Close Call Duty System Policy. However, this duty system is currently subject to IRMP consultation and may change in the future.

    A single contract for staff members working DCCC will encompass both the positive and standby elements of this duty shift system.

    Please note the current list of successful applicants has now been exhausted and this selection process supersedes all other previous expressions of interest / transfer requests that have been submitted by staff members to work at DCCC duty shift system stations.

    Eligibility

     Applicants must:

    • Have band ‘A’ or ‘B’ in the current PDR process.
    • Be a competent wholetime firefighter rank (or above).
    • Be free of current formal disciplinary awards throughout the entire process.
    • Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude to work, good communication and problem solving skills.
    • Be prepared to work at any of the DCCC duty shift system stations and work flexible hours (with reasonable notice, as per Day Crewing Close Call Duty System Policy).

     Process

    The selection process will comprise of:
