    Shortlisting

    Online Psychometric Assessment and Aptitude Tests

    Applicants, who are successfully shortlisted, will be required to complete a Psychometric Assessment.     Presentation and Interview

    Applicants will be required to prepare a 10 minute presentation, of which the title will be given beforehand and a 45 minute interview. 

    Command Development and Assessment

    Successful applicants will proceed to the next stage and undertake the Skills for Justice Advanced Incident Command Development and Assessment.

  • Position: Internal Vacancy - Crew Manager On Call Retained Duty System

    Description:

    An opportunity has arisen for a Crew Manager (CM) to work at Holmfirth Fire Station on the On Call Retained Duty System (RDS). Applications are welcome from existing Wholetime and RDS Crew Commanders. 

    Members of staff applying must be:

    • A competent Crew Commander or a competent Firefighter that has completed their development portfolio
    • Have a band ‘A’ or ‘B’ in their most recent PDR
    • Have no current disciplinary awards throughout the process
    • Live within a 1mile radius or a 5 minute response time to the On-Call station
    • Be able to provide a minimum of 60 hours cover per week (minimum 40 premium hours per week)
    • Have a full current driving licence

    Description:

    An opportunity has arisen for Crew Managers (CMs) to work at Garforth, Morley, Rawdon, Rothwell & Wetherby Fire Stations on the Day Crewing (DC) duty system within West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS). We are responsible for the county’s fire and rescue service, which serves a population of more than two million people spread over almost 800 square miles.  Fire cover is provided 24-hours a day, every day of the year.  We are an organisation where everyone is encouraged, trusted and supported to play their part in promoting safety and wellbeing across all communities in West Yorkshire. We are looking for candidates who are committed to our vision of making West Yorkshire safer and who demonstrate the values of team, responsibility, integrity, dialogue and learn.

     The DC duty system is where DC staff members work a combination of positive and standby hours over a 24 hour period. Positive hours are worked on the fire station or appliance and standby hours are worked ‘on call’ from a residence within a 5 minute ‘turn in’ area of the station.

    Therefore, staff members working the DC duty system are required to reside within a 5 minute turn in area of the station in either permanent or rented accommodation for which an additional allowance is payable to the staff member.

    Applications are welcome from existing wholetime and Retained Duty System (RDS) CMs. These vacancies are for wholetime Crew Manager positions.

    Eligibility

    The following criteria must be satisfied to be eligible to apply:

    DC CMs receive the following remuneration package:

    • Basic CM salary
    • 5% of salary for the ‘on call’ element
    • Turnout and disturbance fees during standby hours
    • Compensatory grant of approximately £1000 paid per annum
    • Relocation package if you are moving in to the area
    • Fuel and light allowance, and rent allowance as per the DC policy
