District Prevention Team

Every day is different within the District Prevention Team, where you can play an essential part in enabling people to make better decisions in their homes to prevent the risk of fire. Being apart of this team, you’re able to take home a sense of satisfaction knowing you have played a part in helping the most vulnerable within our communities.

We work in partnership with other external organisations, and agencies which gives us the opportunity to enhance the services we provide the person we are visiting. Some examples of who we work alongside include sensory services, housing, and council departments.

As part of the team, you will develop your skills within a diverse environment, internally and externally, with frequent opportunities for development and learning. You will show 100% dedication and commitment to preventing the risk of fire, and in the worst-case scenario’ death.

Why work in the District Prevention Team?

  • Help those most vulnerable within our communities,
  • Feel like you make a difference,
  • Be apart of making West Yorkshire a safer place.

District Prevention Manager

I have worked for WYFRS for 18 years, always in Prevention. Originally as a Fire Prevention officer, I quickly realised this is where I wanted to have my career.

The Fire Service has always recognised my skills and encouraged me to develop myself. I have undertaken many courses & received lots of qualifications over the years, and I am very proud to now be a District Prevention Manager.

Every day in Prevention is different. We work with a diverse range of people, often those people are vulnerable in some way. Almost every day you go home with a sense of having made a difference in someone’s life.

It’s very rewarding. As Prevention Manger I also get to work with many other agencies, NHS, housing, Police - to name few.

We all work with a common goal and that is to help people have a better, safer life in our communities.

One of the most interesting parts of my job is managing the Hoarding Panel. The subject has always fascinated me and now I am very much a part of a multi-agency group working together to understand, support and reduce risks in those homes.

Prevention is as it sounds and our focus is to ‘prevent’ house fires, road traffic collisions, arson – by educating and sharing awareness, showing consequences and engaging in different ways – through campaigns, school talks, community events and of course our Safe & Well programme.
