Human Resources

At West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, our HR Team within the Employment Services (People) Directorate ensures our people can be their best every day. We contribute to Making West Yorkshire Safer by having the right people, values, skills, and support in place. Our People Strategy focuses on fair, consistent, and ethical practices to attract, recruit, and retain the right candidates.

We support colleagues throughout their employment journey, from onboarding to promotion, leave processes, and exit. We work with leaders to manage people issues and foster positive employee relations. Our HR guidance helps solve problems and improve through data and innovative initiatives.

We provide excellent pensions and benefits services, comply with employment law, and continually develop our HR competencies to ensure our workforce flourishes.

  • To provide leadership in WYFRS equality and diversity strategy and plans providing a compelling business case
  • Develop key alliances and positively engage with external agencies and communities to enhance the reputation of the service and ensure that the community is fully involved in improving the experience of diverse groups who access our service
  • Production and awareness of equality and diversity policies and guidance
  • Analysis and publication of equality data and monitoring information
  • Facilitating training and awareness-raising of equality issues

The majority of our key Diversity and Inclusion activity is delivered through the Equality Action Plan, and scrutinised by a Corporate Driving Diversity Board made up of staff members from different areas of the organisation.
