Description:

We currently have ten crews in attendance at a building fire on Town Street in Batley. This response also includes two aerial ladder appliances.

This is a three storey derelict mill, measuring 100m by 30m. The building is 50% involved in flame.

Crews are using large jets and hose reel jets to tackle the flames.

Those in the local area are being asked to avoid Town Street if possible and keep doors and windows shut.

 

UPDATE: 18.00 - Crews remain at the scene tackling the fire and are expected to be there into tonight. The public are being reminded to avoid the area and keep doors and windows shut. The address of the incident has been updated to John Street, which is just off Town Street.

 

UPDATE 20:00 - The incident is now scaled back to six crews and two aerial appliances. Work at the scene will continue into the night, and a further update will be provided in the morning.

 

UPDATE 00:00 5/11/24 - The incident has now been reduced to 2 fire engines who are damping down and monitoring whilst working with partners from Northern Power.

 

UPDATE 04:30 5/11/24 - We now have just 1 fire engine in attendance monitoring the building until daylight. Local road closures have been lifted by the Police.

 

UPDATE 08:15 05/11/2024 - Incident now closed and handed over to building owners.
