Incident update 22.30 03/05/2025

This incident has now been marked as concluded and damping down by officers at the scene. 

We'd like to thank our fantastic control room, all our hard working crews, and all our partner agencies and stakeholders for their tireless work over this incident.

Incident update 09:00 03/05/2025

Four crews and supporting units are at the scene this morning to monitor the land and watch for any hotspots. Dropping temperatures, a moister ground overnight and morning dew is positive for the ongoing situation.

Our drone team will also be attending later today to help crews assess the full scene.

Incident update 16:00 02/05/2025

Seven appliances and four wildfire units and three terrain vehicles continue to damp down an area of approximately 3kmx2km.

Road closures remain in place, we ask the public to continue to avoid the area

Incident update 12.30 02/05/2025

We currently have six crews, and six supporting wildfire units at the scene. Firefighters are continuing to work hard in hot and challenging conditions to tackle the fire. The equipment currently in use is, the argocats, beaters, backpacks and fogging units. Please continue to avoid the area, further updates will follow.

Update 09.30 02/05/2025
Fire development has remained steady overnight. The area covered is approximately 3km by 2km with an active 50 meter flame front. There are multiple hotspots across this area.
Crews remain working at the scene this morning to prevent further flare ups and to target hot spots. Please continue to avoid the area.
Incident update 07.00 02/05/25

Seven crews and supporting units remain at the scene this morning after continuing to monitor and tackle the fire overnight. Crews and partner agencies will continue their work this morning. Please continue to avoid the area. Further updates will follow.

Incident update 17.00

18 crews plus support units are still at the scene. The incident has two flanks burning approximately 2 km each. Crews are using a water relay, large jets, blowers, beaters and backpacks to tackle the fire. We continue to be grateful for support from the public and our partners as we continue to tackle the fire.

Update 16.30

18 crews plus supporting teams remain at the scene, which has now been sectorised as they continue to tackle the fire. It is approximately 1km x2km and still spreading. Please continue to avoid the area. There's no reports of any people involved at this time.

Update 15.30

There are now 18 crews at the scene tackling the fire, including support from our colleagues at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

We also have support from our colleagues at the Highways Agency, West Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

This is a large fire and crews are tackling it in very hot, dry conditions, please do your part and continue to avoid the area.

Description:

We were called at 12.15 this afternoon to reports of a moorland fire off Oldham Road in the Ripponden area. This fire has spread and the response increased throughtout the afternoon. As of 14.30 there are currently 14 crews plus supporting units in the area.

They are using beaters and blowers to tackle the blaze, alongside our other moorland firefighting equipment. We are asking the public to avoid the area due to the blaze. Further updates will follow.
