Six crews and one aerial ladder remain at the scene this evening tackling the fire. 

They are using breathing apparatus, large jets and the aerial appliance to continue to fight the fire. There are no reports of any injuries.

The railway line next to the fire remains closed, with police managing road closures near the site. Please continue to avoid the area and keep doors and windows shut if you are a resident.

We are being supported by our partner agencies, West Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Network Rail, Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency.

Update 16:30

Six crews plus an aerial ladder appliance remain at the scene, with approximately thirty vehicles on fire. 

There is a large amount of smoke in the air which has led to road closures, and a block on the railway line between Dewsbury and Batley.

Crews are working hard in extremely hot conditions using breathing apparatus and large jets to tackle the fire.

Description:

We currently have four crews, plus partner agencies including Network Rail and West Yorkshire Police at the scene of a scrapyard fire on Station Yard in Dewsbury. Approximately 10 cars are on fire.

We are asking all local residents to keep doors and windows closed due to a large plume of smoke.
