More than 40 WYFRS runners take on Morley 10k to support The Fire Fighters Charity

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS) colleagues - joined by friends and family - will take to the streets of Morley for the volunteer-led, not-for-profit Morley 10k, raising funds for The Fire Fighters Charity and honouring those we’ve lost. More than 40 members of #TeamWYFRS are set to run the historic town-centre course, with sustainability at its heart. Firefighters from Morley Fire Station will be running in full fire kit with breathing apparatus!

The Morley 10k - organised by volunteers to maximise fundraising for local good causes - features two out-and-back sections and a unique three-way crossover at the legendary Morley Bottoms. While the route includes a few gentle slopes, runners can expect tremendous local support, water stations, a digital goody bag, “sweets ’n’ treats”, and an eco-friendly medal for every finisher.

This year’s participation follows the tragic events in Bicester in May, when two firefighters and a member of the public sadly lost their lives, and two others were seriously injured. WYFRS colleagues, friends and family are running to pay tribute, support those still recovering, and help fund the charity that looks after the fire and rescue family year-round.

Firefighter Benjamin Moody, Morley Fire Station, said:
“This run is about more than miles - it’s about the people behind the uniform and the West Yorkshire communities we serve. As firefighters, we stand together in tough times.

Running in full fire kit and breathing apparatus is tough -but nothing compared to the challenges faced by the people The Fire Fighters Charity supports every day. This year we’re running not just for fitness, but in tribute to those we’ve lost in Bicester and in solidarity with those still recovering. It’s our way of showing that we stand together as one fire family.”

Assistant District Commander Asif Mahroof, Leeds District, said:
“The fire and rescue service is built on service, teamwork and community. The response from colleagues and local people has been humbling. Every donation large or small - helps sustain the specialist support our firefighters and their families rely on.

Morley has a proud tradition of looking after its own, and this event shows that spirit in action.”

Sustainability at the core

The race team has prioritised low-impact choices: an all-digital goody bag, recyclable water cups, and eco-friendly medals. Participants and spectators are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible.
