“Your Fire and Rescue Service” has been shaped by feedback from WYFRS staff, plus a public pre-consultation and full consultation, including specific focus groups. It focuses on identifying and assessing risks to the community (e.g., fire, flooding, road traffic collisions) plus describing how WYFRS will address those risks, including prevention, protection, and emergency response strategies.
Chief Fire Officer John Roberts says, “This document is more than just a document - it's our commitment to protecting lives, property, and the environment and achieving our overall goal of making West Yorkshire Safer. It’s been designed after months of careful planning and communication, both with our colleagues but also the wider public about what they want to see from their Fire and Rescue Service.
“It reflects the unique risks our diverse communities and environments face and outlines how we will respond with courage, care, and professionalism. This also isn’t just about front-line firefighting – it joins up our departments who work on protection, prevention, education, and collaboration."
Chair of WYFRA Darren O’Donovan says, "The Community Risk Management Plan is a vital tool in ensuring WYFRS remains accountable, transparent, and responsive to the needs of our communities.
"As Chair of the Authority, I am proud to support a plan that puts people first, prioritises prevention, and ensures every decision is rooted in evidence and engagement.”
