Candles

Many of us like to brighten our homes with candles, but they can become a source of ignition and cause accidents. So, if you’re going to use them, use them safely.

Follow these safety tips to enjoy candles safely in your home:

Before You Light

  • Only use candles in rooms where you are present.
  • Avoid using candles when children or pets are around, as they can be easily knocked over.
  • Trim the wick before lighting to reduce the risk of high flames.
  • Do not leave used matches in the hot wax.

While Burning

  • Avoid moving a lit candle. If you need to relocate it, extinguish it first.
  • Always use suitable candle holders and place them away from:
    - Draughts
    - Curtains
    - Soft furnishings
    - Under shelves
  • Tea light candles should always be placed in proper holders.

In the Bathroom

  • Do not place candles around the sides of the bath.
  • Avoid placing candles on plastic or acrylic surfaces.

When Not to Use Candles

Do not use candles if you are under the influence of alcohol, recreational drugs, or affected by medication.
