Welfare Unit

Firefighters are currently dealing with a wildfire in the Cold Edge Road area of Halifax.

Local residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed and avoid the area where possible for safety.

Five appliances are in attendance and specialist wildfire equipment is in use.

Around 04:25 Fire Control received multiple calls to a building on fire and mobilised 3 fire engines to the scene.

Multi-occupancy commercial premises approx. 50m x 20m

2nd floor 100% involved and ground floor 50% involved.

On arrival, initial crews requested 5 fire engines and 1 aerial appliance - this also triggered supporting resources and officers.

Shortly afterwards, they requested a further fire engine and aerial appliance.

Incident commanders sectorised the incident into 4 sectors to provide a spread of resources and effective span of control.

Crews are currently in attendance at a building fire in South Elmsall. There are 5 fire engines on scene along with 1 Aerial Appliance and multiple officers.

Derelict building fire in two storey building. Building size 100 metres x 100 metres. Building involved in fire is 20 metres x 30 metres. 20 percent of second floor involved in fire. Incident has been sectorised. Crews used 2 breathing apparatus and 3 large jets. No persons were involved.

Derelict building fire in two storey building. Building size 100 metres x 100 metres. Building involved in fire is 20 metres x 30 metres. 20 percent of second floor involved in fire. Incident has been sectorised. 2 breathing apparatus and 3 large jets in use

Flat on fire in highrise premise. 6 appliances and 1 aerial in attendance at incident.

Tyres involved that spread to commercial garage. 60% of ground floor involved. 1 large jet, 2 hose reels, 2 breathing apparatus used.

Incident is still ongoing.

Large derelict property fire, roof 100% involved. 40m x 30m in size. 6 fire engines and 1 aerial plus supporting resources and officers currently in attendance dealing with the incident.

  • 02:15 Update - 3 fire engines still in attendance using 2 ground monitors. Fire investigation still ongoing.

Crews are in attendance at a moorland fire off Wessendenhead Road in Meltham. There are currently specialist wildfire resources in attendance along with 5 additional pumps and support appliances. 

UPDATE: 11am - this is now a 10 pump fire. Road closures are in place around the area. 

Crews in attendance are Huddersfield, Halifax, Skelmanthorpe, Slaithwaite, Mirfield, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Ossett and Meltham.

UPDATE 12.45 - Crews remain at the scene tackling the fire. The fire has been split into sectors as we continue to bring the situation to a close.

Firefighters from across West Yorkshire are currently tackling a large building fire at Canal Mills in Armley, Leeds.

Residents in Armley and Leeds City Centre are advised to keep their doors and windows closed due to the heavy smoke from the fire.

Additionally, the public is urged to avoid the area if possible, due to the large amount of emergency vehicles dealing with the incident.
