Wildfire Unit

Firefighters are currently dealing with a wildfire in the Cold Edge Road area of Halifax.

Local residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed and avoid the area where possible for safety.

Five appliances are in attendance and specialist wildfire equipment is in use.

We were called at 13.57 today to reports of a moorland fire off Greenfield Road in Holmfirth. We currently have 10 crews and supporting wildfire units at the scene or making their way to the scene. We are working with our colleagues at Greater Manchester FRS as the fire is also breaching their area. The fire is currently spreading North towards Marsden.

The public are asked to avoid the area while we continue to work with our partners to bring the fire under control.

Fire crews from across West Yorkshire are currently dealing with a large moorland fire near Cupwith Reservoir in Huddersfield.

Numerous specialist wildfire vehicles and support appliances are in attendance.

Moorland Fire - Acres Lane- Holmfirth 

Ongoing Incident on the Moorland. Crews in attendance overnight. Large fire Front -  No need for alarm- avoid the area if possible.

Fire crews have been dealing with a large amount of moorland on fire in the West Nab area of Meltham overnight.  They are using beaters and blowers to contain the fire, along with specialist wildfire equipment

Moorland fire, 15m x 20m.  Crews used 2 hose reels to extinguish the fire.

UPDATE 17:30 The moorland fire is out and damping down is in progress. Crews are now leaving the area.

Crews from across West Yorkshire are in attendance at a Moorland Fire in Marsden. The fire is approx 300m x 300m and specialist Wildfire crews are dealing with the incident.

Crews were called to reports of a large area of moorland on fire near Gaddings Dam in the Waldsen area.  Specialist Wildfire crews attended, including one from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, and used the Argo Cat, which is a specialist wildfire vehicle, and beaters to put out the fire.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We are still in attendance at a wildfire on Marsden Moor which was contained overnight and now measures approximately 200m by 150m. Today firefighters will be damping down hot spots. Crews currently in attendance are Huddersfield, Shipley, Dewsbury and Huslet with wildfire support from Slaithwaite.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We have received several calls this morning to flames being seen on Marsden Moor near Deer Hill. It is thought the area has reignited following last week's fires in that area. Crews currently in attendance are wildfire specialists from Slaithwaite, Skelmanthorpe, Todmorden and Holmfirth. The all-terrain Polaris is also in attendance and firefighters are using beaters and blowers to help extinguish the flames of the burning area, which measures 50 square meters.
